PD Ports invests £ 0.9million in Liebherr crane to increase productivity and support Groveport’s strategic growth
PD Ports has taken delivery of an all-new, state-of-the-art £ 0.9million material handling crane that will increase productivity and efficiency for customers at its Groveport site .
The new equipment, manufactured and built by Liebherr, one of the world’s largest construction machinery manufacturers, is part of a long-term strategic plan for the port operator to support the strategic growth of its business at Humber .
The crane, which was built to a bespoke specification for PD ports, will optimize vessel unloading time, reducing turnaround times for some cargoes by up to three times, ensuring the port maintains its operating standards highest standards while continuing to provide customers with quality and reliable service. The equipment is also the latest in a number of infrastructure investments made by PD Ports and delivered by Liebherr to the port operator’s national sites.
A number of employees at Groveport, the largest site in PD Ports’ Humber cluster, which also includes Immingham, Keadby and Hull, will now receive specialized training on the equipment to ensure it is used from the in the safest and most efficient way possible.
Geoff Lippitt, Commercial Director of PD Ports, explained how this latest infrastructure investment marks a significant milestone for Groveport as it continues to position itself as a market leader in bulk cargo handling.

The delivery of the crane builds on a long-standing partnership between PD Ports and Liebherr, who also supplied equipment, including RTG electric cranes, for PD Ports at Teesport, the port operator’s largest operation and the fifth largest port in the UK.
