Most recent A1 (M) traffic: full detour route as police incident closes road between Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage

A police incident on the A1 (M) closed the road in Hertfordshire today.

The incident began earlier this morning (Monday August 16) around 6 a.m. and caused long delays and miles of traffic.

The road remains closed from Exit 6 (A1000 Welwyn Bypass Road) to Exit 4 (Hertford and Welwyn Garden City).

The incident was earlier confirmed by police to be of concern for someone’s well-being.

Traffic has since been cleared but there are still closures in place that could last until 11am.

Highways England have posted two detour routes for north and south traffic in an attempt to keep people away from the scene.
