Massanutten Technical Center students take part in their annual Food Truck Battle

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Culinary Arts Department at Massanutten Technical Center held its 2nd annual Food Truck Battle where students plan and create their own food trucks, complete with menu and pricing, and shop before heading out. produce and sell their food products. to the MTC student body.

“I’ve been cooking for as long as I can remember,” said Jenna May, one of the students who took part in the event. “I remember cooking with my mum and grandma, so it’s just something I’ve always loved to do.”

Money raised during the contest is used to reinvest in the program and its students.

“I mean there’s nothing that compares to the kind of learning we do here in our kitchen,” said Jaxon Riner, another competition student. “Running it like a real restaurant, and then a project like this where we actually calculate what we’re doing, it’s amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The competition is designed for students to get a taste of real-world competition when they graduate.

“I’m quite competitive, hopefully we can win. We had a lot of ups and downs, but I think it went pretty well,” May said.

“It will give me a taste of what it would be like if I was actually serving in a food truck, so I think it’s a valuable experience,” Riner said.
