âCertainly, increased competition online may have driven the numbers down,â said Doug Harbach, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Overall, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that the combined total revenues of statewide casinos and all forms of board-regulated gaming as well as fantasy contests were over. $ 408 million. This represents a 31% increase over total revenue in August 2020 of approximately $ 310.7 million.
Sources of gaming revenue regulated by board revenue include slots, table games, internet casino-type games, sports betting, fantasy contests, and video game terminals.

The amount of online sports betting was around $ 318 million, up 15.5% from July. Sports betting revenue was around $ 18 million, down 9.3% from July. Lou Monaco, sports betting analyst for the Gambling.com Group said the August figures released on Monday “were certainly cause for celebration, as sports betting figures in all areas showed significant increases, breaking a three-month drop in total betting numbers.”
“With the Phillies still contending in the National Eastern League and with the Eagles, Steelers, Penn State all showing a strong start to the football season, the numbers will only increase during the fall months,” Monaco said.
